The Kermode 9″ fillet knife has been a favourite on the west coast since we developed it in 2014 with the input of local anglers and fish processing professionals. The original knife has now been updated: improved the stiffness by going to slightly thicker blade stock. We are now using 0.070″ (1.78 mm) stock rather than the previous 0.060″ (1.52 mm) stock. The blade still has good flex but the added stiffness improves control and helps when dealing with tougher skinned fish we have moved to MagnaCut steel (from the original S35VN). Otherwise, the knife profile remains exactly the same, as do the handles. We also offer a 6 inch version of the Kermode, if you need or want a smaller knife. The knife takes its name from the creamy-white coated Kermode, or Spirit Bear, a sub-species of the black bear that is native to the BC coastal region. It has been found that in daylight the kermode is 30 percent more efficient at fishing than regular black bears because its reduced contrast with the sky makes it less visible to fish.
